Job Description:

Help shape how a growing oncology and hematology field medical team learns, grows, and engages the scientific community.

*This role is a 6-month contract engagement.

Our client is an established biopharmaceutical company with a growing oncology and hematology portfolio. As its Field Medical Excellence function invests in the development of its Medical Science Liaisons, the organization is engaging an MSL Trainer to design, deliver, and continuously improve training across both scientific content and field skills.

This is a hands-on training engagement built for a former MSL who loves the craft of field medical and wants to spend their time developing others. It is not a classroom-only instructional design seat. You will onboard new MSLs, deepen the team's command of the oncology and hematology disease state and data landscape, and coach MSLs on the practical side of the job: KOL engagement, scientific exchange, insight gathering, and compliant field conduct. Success in this role comes from having done the job and being able to teach it with credibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list represents the major duties of the engagement and is not all-inclusive. The consultant may be asked to perform related duties beyond those described here.

Onboarding & Scientific Training

  • Lead onboarding for new MSLs, including disease state, product, competitive landscape, and clinical data training.
  • Develop and maintain training curricula, modules, and assessments for oncology and hematology content.
  • Keep training content current with new data readouts, congress presentations, and label updates.

Field Skills Development & Coaching

  • Train MSLs on core field competencies, including KOL mapping and engagement, scientific exchange, advisory board support, and insight capture.
  • Facilitate role plays, certification sessions, and skills workshops, both virtually and at in-person meetings.
  • Conduct field coaching and ride-alongs as needed, providing structured feedback to MSLs and their managers.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Launch Readiness

  • Partner with Medical Directors, Field Medical leadership, Legal, and Compliance to ensure training content is accurate and appropriately reviewed.
  • Support launch readiness and refresher training as the portfolio evolves.

Program Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Track training outcomes and recommend improvements to the field medical development program.

The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform this engagement successfully.

Required

  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 3 years of field Medical Science Liaison or Field Medical Training experience.
  • Demonstrated experience training, onboarding, mentoring, or coaching MSLs, whether in a formal training role or as a peer mentor, onboarding lead, or launch training lead.
  • Strong command of clinical trial design, data interpretation, and the oncology treatment landscape.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills across virtual and live settings.
  • Working knowledge of the compliance standards governing field medical activities.
  • Ability to travel periodically for training meetings and field coaching.

Preferred
